Caffeine Reduces The Risk of Skin Cancer

The recents studies by the University of Washington and Rutgers University have shown caffeine’s ability to prevent cancer, specifically skin cancer resulting from ultraviolet radiation. Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports:

Rutgers studies have shown that caffeine applied to the skin reverses ultraviolet-induced damage and reduces skin cancer. … The findings are still preliminary and largely limited to mice, both scientists emphasized, but the basic biochemical evidence that caffeine can prevent some forms of skin cancer is fairly convincing.

The effects are not yet throughoutly tested with humans, however, the basic biochemistry is the same in mouse and human cells. This would be good news for all the sun bathers. Maybe we don’t have to wait too long to see caffeine being added in sunscreen lotions.
