Jamaica About to Legalize Marijuana?
The Caribbean island, Jamaica, considers making changes to its anti-drug laws. Recently a seven-member government commission has been put to prepare a report conserning marijuana law reform to the prime minister Bruce Golding.
According to some sources the courts and jails are being flooded with marijuana-related cases – the island’s large Rastafarian population states smoking to be part of their religion. The members of the Rastafarian movement have been lobbing for the legalisation of the drug for a long time.
Legalising marijuana for personal use has been planned also earlier. Back in 2003 the case was rejected due to breaking the country’s US-antidrug certification. The news were reported by the Australian Associated Press.
