Marijuana Has Anti-Bacterial Properties

Researchers in Britain and Italy have found that THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the active ingredient in cannabis, is promisingly looking to have anti-bacterial properties.

It has been known for decades that Cannabis sativa has antibacterial properties. Experiments in the 1950s tested various marijuana preparations against skin and other infections, but researchers at the time had little understanding of marijuana’s chemical makeup.

How exactly the cannabinoids work, and whether or not they can be used as systemic antibiotics, still remains a mystery for the researchers. The research was made in the University of the Eastern Piedmont. The results of this research were published in the Journal of Natural Products.
