Scientists Want Caffeine Warning Labels

Scientist want warning labels to products containing high amounts of caffeine in the United States. In other countries the labeling is already found. In the European Union a “high caffeinated content” label is required.

Writing in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, researchers noted the tremendous increase in sales of drinks like Red Bull, which they said ranged in caffeine content from 50 to 505 milligrams per container. A 6-ounce cup of coffee has from 77 to 150 milligrams.

The researchers say without proper labeling consumers don’t understand how much caffeine the products contain, or what is the recommended dosage. This may lead to caffeine intoxication.
