Tobacco Ban a Threat To Dutch Coffee Shops
As many countries in Europe have done before, Netherlands too, will deny smoking tobacco in public restaurants, pubs, and cafés. However, the coffee shops in which it is legal to smoke cannabis, see the new law threatening their business concept.
Although in Netherlands possessing marijuana is illegitimate, smoking is fully legal. Smoking pure cannabis in the coffee shops would be allowed, but since many people are used to mix tobacco with their marijuana joints, the new law will cause trouble.
In practise it is almost impossible for the shop keepers to make sure no tobacco is used in mix. The owners are afraid the law will decrease the popularity of their business, which is one of the main reasons why tourists keep visiting some of the cities.
