UK Re-Classifying Cannabis Drug Class?

In the United Kingdom government is planning to re-classify cannabis in law from class C to class B drug. This class includes serious illegal drugs such as amphetamines. According to a recent charity report by The Beckley Foundation is calling for serious rethink of this drug policy.

Although cannabis can have a negative impact on health, including mental health, in terms of relative harms it is considerably less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.

According to the charity cannabis is less harmful than drinking or smoking. Banning it would have no impact on supply and would turn cannabis users into criminals.

Many of the harms associated with cannabis use are the result of prohibition itself, particularly the social harms arising from arrest and imprisonment.

Report states the only way to protect young people from the ever more potent forms of dope is through a regulated market. The Beckley Foundation is a charity which has numbers of senior experts and other academics among its advisors.
