Calamus

Calamus is a plant which has thick and hard leaves with a pleasant citrus-like odour. Growing in riverbanks and swamps in North America, Asia, and Europe it has a long history of medical use for many illnesses.

Dried Calamus roots can be chewen or made into tea. In small doses the effect of Calamus is cheering and stimulatingly euphoric.

Calamus enhances the health of stomach while relieving heartburn and decreasing flatulence. It is also said that chewing dried Calamus roots helps when trying to quit smoking. With larger doses the effect is hallucinogenic.

Calamus is also known as Sweet Flag, Cinnamon Sedge, Flagroot, Gladdon, Myrtle Grass, Sweet Cane, Sweet Root, and Sweet Rush.
