Ephedra sinica
Ephedra, also known as Ma Huang, is a shrub-like plant which has a long history in China. In Chinese medicine it has been used for over five thousand years as remedy e.g. for the common cold.

Dried Ephedra herb contains about one to two percent ephedrine and Ephedra extracts usually from five to eight percent ephedrine.
Ephedra has stimulating effect and it is used to improve performance in sports as well as losing weight.
Products containing Ephedra can cause disorders of heart rate or heart attacks. It is also known Ephedra to have a possibility to cause false positive results drug tests when testing amphetamine.
Although pure Ephedrine is controlled for sale in many countries, Ephedra sinica is often not regulated. One can buy ephedra extracts from many e-stores.
