Ginseng root

Ginseng, also known as Tartar Root and Five-Fingers, is a plant which has small green flowers and later on red berries. It grows in cool climates of eastern Asia and America and has a strong reputation of increasing vitality, over-all health, and functioning as a sexual stimulant.

Usually ginseng root is available either in whole or sliced form, although ginseng leaves can sometimes also be found. The dried root is often made into tea. Small amounts of ginseng can also be found in some popular energy drinks.

The types of ginseng can be divided in American ginseng (P. quinquefolius) and Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng). In traditional Chinese medicine American ginseng is known to promote Yin energy and calming the body, while the Asian ginseng is known for promoting Yang energy, improve blood circulation and stimulating the body.

Ginseng affects the central nervous system and tissues and thus enhances one's libido. Besides the sexually stimulating effect ginseng improves body's natural resistance to stress and depression.

In the most parts of the world ginseng is fully legal. However there are some exceptions e.g. state of Illinois, U.S. requires a license to pick and grow ginseng. Also some limitations exists on importing ginseng plants to some countries.
