Kava

Kava is a tropical shrub originated from the western Pacific. The plants active ingredients are called kavalactones and it is used to produce intoxicating beverage also called Kava.

The drink is made by squishing the intoxicating fluid out of the roots and filtering it to make more suitable for drinking.

The beverage is especially popular in the Pacific Polynesia and Australia, where it has a long history in ritual and recreational use.

The effect of Kava is relaxing. With large doses user can experience fatigue, however, unlike alcohol, Kava does not disrupt one's mental clarity.

With an average dose the effects start in twenty to thirty minutes and last about two hours. Some sources mention Kava to significantly increase mental alertness when combined together with caffeine.

The drink is not addictive but long term use may strain one's liver. Very large doses may also cause hangover. Kava is also known Awa, Ava, Lawenaand, Sakau, Yaqona, and Waka.
