Peyote (Lophophora williamsii)
Peyote, also called Mescal Button and the Divine Cactus, is a small, spineless button shaped cactus that contains psychedelic alkaloid mescaline. It has been used in religious rituals, ceremonies, and as medicine thousands of years by the natives of Northern Mexico and South-West United States.

Peyote is a small cactus.
The traditional way of having Peyote is to eat the dried cactus plant. However, because of its bitter taste, it is most often ground into a fine powder and placed into capsules for more pleasant consumption. An effective Peyote dose is about five grams of dried plant which equals 300 to 500 grams of mescaline.
The effects of Peyote are psychedelic. It produces strong physical, visual, and perceptual hallucinations and users may feel hot and cold sensations while having new and unusual thinking processes. Also unwanted side-effects may occur. They can include headache, dizziness, and nausea. The effects may last from ten to twelve hours.
Very large doses of mescaline can possibly cause unconsciousness, heart failure or even death due to respiratory failure. Mescaline doesn't cause a physical addiction.
Growing Peyote is time consuming task since, single Peyote button can take from five to fifteen years to mature. Peyote is declared illegal in the United States and either it or mescaline is regulated in many other countries too.
